Angamali Diaries

Director Lijo Jose Pellissery /India/132/Malayalam/2017
Synopsis The story revolves around Vincent Pepe (and his friends) who wanted to be a powerful leader of a righteous gang that ruled the city, like his seniors. And then there’s the rival clan with the malicious gangsters of Angamaly a locale on which the entire film is based. The movie goes through all the gang-fights, the failed romances, an accidental death, a messy business deal and much more in the backdrop of a soundtrack with local fervor – with folk songs from Angamaly.

DIRECTORS STATEMENT
Angamaly Diaries is not a conventional commercial film, and it is steeped in the local Angamaly idiom. For me, the way to tell the story of a particular place in detail is to bring in the flavour of the local food, the humour, music, all of which are an essential part of Angamaly Diaries. Watching the film was like experiencing a new land. It worked because we were not sticking to one protagonist and one story-line, we were telling Angamaly’s tale.
