Homage- Remembering IV Sasi and KR Mohanan
A Homage section to remember Malayalam film makers IV Sasi and KR Mohanan was organized on Saturday.
The 22nd International Film Festival of Kerala paid homage to eminent film personalities who passed
away this year. Homage ceremony was held on December 9th, at the Sree Theatre Complex. As part of
the film festival, films of the veterans who passed away will be screening in Homage package.
The ceremony was started by screening a documentary featuring all those eminent film veterans who
passed away this year. The keynote address was delivered by the Academy Chairman Sri Kamal. Kamal paid tribute to K R Mohanan, I V Sasi, Kundan Shah, Jagannath Varma, Khadeeja, Thodupuzha Vasanthi, Abi, Deephan, A V Sasidharan, Manacaud Ravi, Munshi Venu and Sasi Kapoor during his address.
Actor V K Sreeraman commemorated K R Mohanan, director and former chairman of Chalachitra
Academy. He stated that eventhough K R Mohanan directed his films based on short stories, he had always maintained his own style in his works. “Mohanan actively took part in film related matters after 1978. He was one who thought and acted like a common man and that is the reason why he was lovingly called ‘Mohanettan’ by all those who knew him well”, he added.
Director T V Chandran remarked that like his films, Mohanan has given immense contribution to film
festival too. As long as IFFK lasts, KR Mohanan’s memories will be remembered, added T V Chandran.
K P Kumaran remembers that K R Mohanan and others were a part of Parallel Cinema Movement.
Eventhough they all belong to the string of parallel cinema each produced films in their own different
styles. S R Praveen’s book on K R Mohanan was given to K P Kumaran in the ceremony.
Director Sathyan Anthicaud commemorated I V Sasi. Smt Seema and son Anil Sasi were present in the
venue. Sathyan Anthicaud points that I V Sasi was the best hero Malayalam cinema have ever seen. His
film Uthsavam had created a new wave in Malayalam film. “I V Sasi was literally a culmination of many
directors. He knew every aspect of film making”, said Sathyan Anthicaud.
P V Gangadharan, owner of Grihalakshmi Productions said, “I V Sasi was a close friend, a brother and so
much to me. “ Premchand’s book on I V Sasi was given to P V Gangadharan by Sathyan Anthicaud.
