Day 2 of IFFK to Showcase 66 Films, including 6 Oscar Entries

On Saturday, cinema enthusiasts can look forward to the screening of 66 films directed by renowned filmmakers. The lineup spans across 14 categories, featuring world cinema, masters mind, international competition, Latin American, and animation films scheduled for Saturday.

Among the highlights are the Oscar entries from six countries, including the cinematic adaptation of the Nobel Prize-winning novel 'The Peasants' by D K Welchman and Hugh Welchman, Aki Kaurismäki's 'Fallen Leaves,' Ilker Çatak's 'The Teachers’ Lounge,' Baloji's 'Omen,' Nuri Bilge Ceylan's 'About Dry Grasses,' and Marija Kavtaradze's 'Slow.'

The competition category boasts seven films, including two Malayalam entries: 'Family' by Don Palathara and 'The Sentence' by Fazil Razak, both scheduled for screening on Saturday. Other notable entries include 'Agra' by Kanu Bhel, recognized at the Cannes Film Festival, 'Southern Storm' by Edgardo Dieleke and Danile Casabe, 'Power Alley' by Lillah Hallah, 'All the Silence' by Diego del Rio, and 'The Snowstorm' by Sabit Kurmanbekov.

Under the Malayalam Cinema Today section, audiences can enjoy films like 'O Baby' by Ranjan Pramod, 'Apple Plants' (Applechedikal) by Gagan Dev, 'Valassai Paravakal' by Sunil Maloor, and 'B 32 to 44' by Shruthi Sharanyam.

The World Cinema segment on Saturday will showcase 28 films, including Justin Triet's 'The Anatomy of a Fall,' winner of the Palme d'Or at this year's Cannes Film Festival. The day's attractions also feature classic films such as Charlie Chaplin's 1940 masterpiece 'The Great Dictator' and Mrinal Sen's 'Calcutta 71.'

The homage category will screen 'A Minor,' a film by Dariush Mehrjui, the recipient of the 2015 IFFK Lifetime Achievement Award. Additionally, Zanussi retrospective will include screenings of 'Perfect Number' and 'A Year of the Quiet Sun.'
