Shabana Retro Opening: A Special Session to Honour Shabana Azmi

Veteran actress Shabana Azmi, who has completed a remarkable half-century in her acting career, was felicitated at the "Shabana Retro Opening", a special session organized at Sree Theatre to commemorate her outstanding achievements in the film industry.
During the event, Shabana Azmi revealed that "Ankur" holds a special place in her heart, adding that it is her favourite film. "Ankur" is not only a film of great personal significance to her, but it is also a testament to its enduring impact. The fact that "Ankur", which garnered attention both domestically and internationally, continues to be celebrated 50 years after its release, is a tribute to its timeless appeal.
The actress reminisced about the efforts made by acclaimed director Shyam Benegal to transform her, a college student from a middle-class urban family, into the character of Lakshmi in the iconic film "Ankur". Shabana Azmi expressed her pride in having been a part of the inaugural International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK) and in attending the 29th edition of the festival. She also shared her delight, stating, "It is a great joy to have 'Ankur' screened at the same venue on Shyam Benegal's birthday."
The function preceding the screening of "Ankur" was inaugurated by former minister M A Baby, who extended Navati greetings to acclaimed director Shyam Benegal. A special video presentation highlighting Shabana Azmi's invaluable contributions to art and culture was showcased during the event.
Kerala State Chalachithra Academy Chairman Prem Kumar, Secretary C Ajoy, Director T K Rajeev Kumar, and Cultural Activists' Welfare Fund Board Chairperson Madhupal were present at the occasion.
