Bharathan is considered one of the pioneers of the new wave of Malayalam cinema in the 1980s, along with Padmarajan and K. G. George. He entered the film industry as an art director with the Malayalam film "Gandharavakshetram" (1972). He made his directorial debut with "Prayanam" (1975), which was based on a script by Padmarajan. Bharathan received numerous awards for his work, including several Kerala State Film Awards.
Achootty, an uneducated fisherman, wants his daughter Radha to be educated and also want her to become a doctor. His dreams get shattered when Radha falls in love with her childhood friend.
