Luca Guadagnino, born on August 10, 1971, in Palermo, Sicily, Italy, is an acclaimed Italian film director, screenwriter, and producer. Guadagnino began his career directing short films and documentaries. His feature film debut was "The Protagonists" (1999), the first of many collaborations with actress Tilda Swinton. He gained international recognition with his "Desire" trilogy, which includes "I Am Love" (2009), "A Bigger Splash" (2015), and "Call Me by Your Name" (2017). The latter earned him an Academy Award nomination and widespread acclaim. His other notable works include the horror remake "Suspiria" (2018), the romantic horror film "Bones and All" (2022), and the romantic sports film "Challengers" (2024).
In 1950s Mexico City, William Lee, an American expat in his late forties, leads a solitary life amidst a small American community. However, the arrival in town of Eugene Allerton, a young student, stirs William into finally establishing a meaningful connection with someone.
