Edward Berger

Edward Berger (Wolfsburg, Germany. 1970) won, with Im Westen nichts Neues (All Quiet on the Western Front, 2022) the Academy Awards for Best International Feature Film, Best Cinematography, Best Soundtrack and Best Production Design, as well as another five nominations, including best feature. The movie premiered at the Toronto Festival and won seven BAFTAs, two European Film Awards and seven German Cinema accolades, among others. He had made his feature debut with Gomez - Kopf oder Zahl (1998), followed by others including Frau2 sucht HappyEnd (2001), Jack (2014), with which he competed in Berlin, and All My Loving (2019). He has also directed series such as Deutschland 83 (2015) and The Terror (2018) as well as films for TV including Windland (2007) and A Good Summer (2011).

Synopsis

Conclave follows one of the world’s most secretive and ancient events – selecting a new Pope. Cardinal Lawrence is tasked with running this covert process after the unexpected death of the beloved Pope. Once the Catholic Church’s most powerful leaders have gathered from around the world and are locked together in the Vatican halls, Lawrence finds himself at the centre of a conspiracy and discovers a secret that could shake the very foundation of The Church.
