Glauber Rocha

Glauber Rocha was one of the most influential figures in Brazilian cinema and a key proponent of the Cinema Novo movement. He began his career as a journalist and film critic before making his directorial debut with the short film "Pátio" in 1959. His first feature film, "Barravento" (1962), marked the beginning of his significant contributions to Brazilian cinema. Rocha received numerous accolades throughout his career, including the FIPRESCI Prize at the Cannes Film Festival for "Entranced Earth" and the Special Jury Prize for Best Short Film for "Di" in 1977.

Synopsis

Wanted for killing his boss, Manuel flees with his wife Rosa to the sertão, the barren landscape of Northern Brazil. Thrust into a primordial violent region, Manuel and Rosa come under the influence and control of a series of frightening figures.
