Hong Sang Soo

Hong Sang-soo, born on October 25, 1960, in Seoul, South Korea, is a renowned film director and screenwriter. He is celebrated for his slow-paced films that explore love affairs and everyday dilemmas in contemporary South Korea1. Hong made his directorial debut in 1996 with "The Day a Pig Fell into the Well" and has since directed numerous acclaimed films. His works often feature themes of domestic realism, with scenes set in everyday locations like cafes, hotels, and residential streets1. Hong's films have been showcased at major international film festivals, including Cannes, Berlin, and Venice. He has received several prestigious awards, such as the Prix Un Certain Regard at the 2010 Cannes Film Festival for "Hahaha" and the Silver Bear for Best Director at the 70th Berlin International Film Festival for "The Woman Who Ran"1. Synopsis

Iris, a woman abroad in Seoul, teaches French and English in an idiosyncratic fashion that allows her to pursue her own philosophical and personal interests. Through four encounters over a single day, Iris probes students and strangers for information about poetry, their own histories, and their relationship to their egos.
