Fasil Muhammed makes his directorial debut with the film *Feminist Fathima*, which delves into the lives of domestic workers and their daily struggles. Hailing from the coastal town of Ponnani, Fasil brings a deep understanding of the local culture, infusing these elements into the narrative. The film not only explores the socio-economic challenges faced by these women but also highlights their resilience and strength in navigating life’s adversities. Apart from directing, Fasil has also taken on the roles of writer and editor for the movie, showcasing his versatility in filmmaking. With years of experience working as a spot editor for several well-known films and collaborating with renowned directors, Fasil’s transition to the director’s chair has been much anticipated. *Feminist Fathima* promises to be a thought-provoking piece, reflecting both his technical expertise and cultural insights.
Synopsis
Fathima, a housewife in the coastal town of Ponnani, lives under the strict control of her orthodox husband, Ashraf. When her son wets their old mattress, Fathima’s attempt to replace it sparks conflict. Ashraf blocks her at every turn, despite her back pain and growing frustration. Eventually, Fathima realizes the mattress represents more than just comfort it’s her chance to reclaim her independence. By finally buying it, she takes a bold stand
