Guru Dutt (1925–1964) was an iconic Indian filmmaker, actor, and producer whose artistry and vision made him one of the greatest auteurs of Indian cinema. His filmography includes Baazi (1951), Jaal (1952), Aar-Paar (1954), Mr. & Mrs. ’55 (1955), Pyaasa (1957), Kaagaz Ke Phool (1959), Chaudhvin Ka Chand (1960), and Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam (1962). These films, celebrated for their poetic storytelling, innovative cinematography, and unforgettable music, established him as a master of blending romance, tragedy, and social critique. Pyaasa and Kaagaz Ke Phool are regarded as masterpieces of world cinema, while Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Hindi and the Filmfare Best Film Award. His collaborations with cinematographer V.K. Murthy and lyricist Sahir Ludhianvi created some of the most enduring images and songs in Indian film history.
