Rajeevnath, born in 1951 in Changanassery, Kerala, is a distinguished Malayalam film director celebrated for his contemplative style and socially rooted storytelling. Educated at Sainik School, Kazhakootam, he began his career with a short film shot on 16mm before making his feature debut with Thanal (1976), which won him the Kerala State Film Award for Best Director. Over the years, he directed several notable works including Kadaltheerathu (1988), based on O.V. Vijayan’s short story and screened in the Indian Panorama at IFFI, and Janani (1999), which earned him the National Film Award for Best Direction. His later films include David and Goliath (2013) and Rasam (2014). Known for his sensitive exploration of human relationships, spirituality, and social dilemmas, Rajeevnath’s films balance austerity with emotional depth, reflecting Kerala’s cultural and philosophical traditions.
The film is set within the cloistered world of a convent in Kerala. At its heart lies the story of seven Catholic nuns who unexpectedly find themselves caring for an orphaned infant, a situation that challenges their vows, their faith, and their understanding of maternal love
