@30: Remembering three decades of the Festival

An open forum marking three decades of the International Film Festival of Kerala was held on the sixth day of the 30th edition of the festival. Moderated by Kerala State Chalachitra Academy Secretary C. Ajoy, the session traced the festival’s remarkable journey, reflecting on its milestones while envisioning a vibrant and promising future.

Eminent filmmaker Adoor Gopalakrishnan observed that IFFK audiences consistently expect films that rise above the ordinary and offer fresh innovations, both technically and aesthetically. He noted that the energetic and active participation of youngsters has played a vital role in keeping the festival dynamic and alive.

Film critic V. K. Joseph highlighted the significant contribution of the Kerala Film Society movement in laying the groundwork for the evolution of IFFK. He remarked that the Open Forum, with its emphasis on free dialogue, pluralism, and democratic values, is a defining feature that distinguishes IFFK from other film festivals.

Director T. K. Rajeev Kumar described the three-decade journey of IFFK as both successful and inspiring, pointing out its profound influence on the cinematic sensibilities and viewing culture of Malayali audiences.

The session was attended by former Vice-Chairperson of the Academy and former Artistic Director of IFFK Bina Paul, along with filmmakers Kamal and V. R. Gopinath, Meera Sahib, Dr. Babu Gopalakrishnan, K. V. Mohankumar, and several other prominent personalities from the film fraternity.
