IFFK 2022- Directors decry censorship, hail the freedom on OTT
A ‘Meet the Directors’ programme held on the sidelines of the International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK 2022) on March 19, saw participant filmmakers coming down heavily on censorship of films.
“Censorship is a curb on creativity in the movies,” opined Bengali film director Amitabha Chatterjee. He said that he did not believe in censorship of films, adding that movies based on real life incidents had a greater possibility of succeeding commercially.
Vignesh P Sasidharan concurred, saying that, “I feel there should be no restrictions placed on filmmakers. Censorship of movies will impinge on the artistic freedom of filmmakers.”
Ranjith Sankar said that the advent of OTT platforms boded well and they may be the best medium to release uncensored movies. Tamil director P S Vinod Raj, Faraz Ali and Krishnendu Kalesh were also part of the discussion which was moderated by Meera Saheb , writer and former director of IFFK.
