Girish Kasaravalli, born on December 3, 1950, in Kesalur, Karnataka, India, is a renowned Indian film director, screenwriter, and producer, primarily known for his work in Kannada cinema. He is a pioneer of the Parallel Cinema movement in India and has garnered international acclaim for his films. Kasaravalli made his directorial debut with "Ghatashraddha" (1977), which won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film. His subsequent films, such as "Tabarana Kathe" (1986), "Thaayi Saheba" (1997), and "Dweepa" (2002), also received critical acclaim and won several National Film Awards. He has directed numerous other notable films, including "Mane" (1990), "Kraurya" (1996), "Hasina" (2004), and "Gulabi Talkies" (2008). Kasaravalli has received fourteen National Film Awards, including four for Best Feature Film. In 2011, he was awarded the Padma Shri, India's fourth highest civilian award, for his contributions to Indian cinema.
