Nishanth KALIDINDI
A home-grown filmmaker from Pondicherry, Nishanth Kalidindi is known for his outlandish debut feature KADASEELA BIRIYANI (2021) that became a cult hit on Netflix. THEATRE is his 2nd feature - an intimate portrait of the people he knows in the Pondicherry-Theatre scene, and the struggles & challenges they face in their chosen medium. Nishanth is working on his next feature, an Indo-French film.
Synopsis
Das, a young man from the villages outside Pondicherry, leads a double life - that of a cowherd, and as an actor in a theatre group in Pondicherry. His best friend Guna plays music on-stage for the group. They have an unsettled score from the past. The Play's director Bhoomi's inexperienced struggle for perfection leads to intense outbursts and strained relationships. Meanwhile, Das is torn between his work at the theatre group and an ailing calf back home.
