Tarzan and Arab Nasser are Palestinian twin filmmakers from Gaza, born in 1988, whose work bridges art and cinema with a distinctive voice rooted in their homeland’s struggles and resilience. They began their careers studying Fine Arts at Al-Aqsa University and first gained recognition in 2010 with their conceptual art project Gazawood, before moving into filmmaking. Their breakthrough came with the short film Condom Lead (2013), which was selected for official competition at the Cannes Film Festival, marking the first time a film by Gazan Palestinians was accepted there. They followed this with several shorts, including Apartment 10/14 and With Premeditation (2014). Their debut feature Dégradé (2015), set in a women’s hair salon in Gaza, premiered at Cannes’ Critics’ Week. In 2020, they released Gaza Mon Amour, a poignant love story that premiered at the Venice Film Festival and was Palestine’s submission to the 93rd Academy Awards
In 2007, Yahya worked at his friend Osama’s falafel shop in Gaza, which doubled as a drug dealing front. His entanglement leads him to witness a terrible crime. A couple of years later, Gaza’s Ministry of Culture randomly chooses Yahya to star in a TV series that highlights martyrs and heroes of the resistance. The show provides him with an opportunity to confront the perpetrator of the offense that changed his life.
