Annemarie Jacir is a prominent film maker from Palestine, who has written, directed and produced over sixteen films. Her films have premiered in Cannes, Berlin, Venice, Locarno, Rotterdam and Toronto. All four films, including PALESTINE 36, are selected as Palestine’s official Oscar Entry. With a commitment to teaching, training and hiring locally, Annemarie Jacir also curates, actively promoting independent cinema in the region. Her films often delve into the Palestinians' experience of exile, rebellion and resistance.
In 1936, amidst Palestinian villages uprising against British colonial rule, Yusuf navigates the turmoil between his rural home and Jerusalem. With Jewish immigration rising and Palestinian resistance growing, the conflict spirals towards the inevitable collision of the British Empire, a decisive moment that will shape the future of the entire region.
