Dea Kulumbegashvili, born in 1986 in Oriol, Russia, is a Georgian film director and writer of Ossetian origin. Kulumbegashvili's debut short film, "Invisible Spaces" (2014), was nominated for the Short Film Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival. Her second short film, "Lethe" (2016), also premiered at Cannes. Her first feature film, "Beginning" (2020), received critical acclaim and won several awards, including the FIPRESCI Prize at the Toronto International Film Festival. In 2022, Kulumbegashvili received the Baumi Script Development Award for her second feature film, initially titled "Historia" and later named "April." The film premiered at the 81st Venice International Film Festival in 2024, where it won the Special Jury Prize.
