Nelicia Low, born in 1991, is a Singaporean film director and former national fencer. She represented Singapore in fencing at the 2010 Asian Games. After retiring from fencing, Low pursued her passion for filmmaking and earned her MFA in Film Directing from Columbia University School of the Arts. She has created several short films, including "Freeze" (2016), which was showcased at numerous international film festivals. Her debut feature film, "Pierce" (2024), is a Singapore-Taiwan-Poland co-production that received the Best Director Award at the 58th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival. The psychological thriller explores themes of familial bonds and follows the story of a high school fencer who decides to trust and assist his dangerous older brother after his release from prison, defying their mother's efforts to conceal their traumatic past.
