Tawfik Alzaidi, born in 1982 in Medina, Saudi Arabia, is a prominent Saudi film director and screenwriter. He began his filmmaking career in 2006 and quickly became a leading figure in the new wave of Saudi cinema. His first short film, "Perfect Crime," won the Best Editing Award at the Jeddah Film Festival in 2007. Alzaidi's notable works include "The Silence" (2009), which won the Gulf Short Film Award at the Muscat International Film Festival, and "Norah" (2023), which received the Best Saudi Feature Film Award at the Red Sea International Film Festival and was selected for screening at the Cannes Film Festival in 2024
Set in a small remote Saudi Arabian village in the 90s, when artistic expression was banned, the film is a story about the arrival of a new teacher, formerly an artist, into the tiny community where he meets a young woman named Norah.
