Mrinal Sen

Mrinal Sen, born on May 14, 1923, in Faridpur, was a celebrated Indian filmmaker known for his work primarily in Bengali cinema. Sen made his directorial debut with "Raat Bhore" (1956), but it was "Bhuvan Shome" (1969) that brought him national recognition and is considered a landmark in Indian cinema. His films often explored social and political themes, reflecting the realities of his homeland. Notable works include "Ek Din Pratidin" (1979), "Kharij" (1982), and the Calcutta Trilogy: "Interview" (1971), "Calcutta 71" (1972), and "Padatik" (1973). Sen received numerous national and international honors, including eighteen Indian National Film Awards. He was awarded the Padma Bhushan in 1983, the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the French government in 1985, and the Order of Friendship by the Russian government in 2000. He also won the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, India's highest award in cinema, in 20031.

Synopsis

Subhash is a photographer from the city, who has come to take pictures of some old temples and ruins in a village. Ruins fascinate him. While in the village, he gets acquainted with a young woman, Jamini, who has had her heart broken in the past, by another visitor from the big city. Will history repeat itself, or will she find a way out of the ruins at last?
