Carlos Gaviria
Carlos Gaviria, born in Bogotá in 1956, is a Colombian filmmaker, cinematographer, and editor. His work often addresses trauma, displacement, and memory. Portraits in a Sea of Lies (2010) won awards at Viña del Mar and Guadalajara, while his later projects such as Carta a una sombra (2015) continued to explore Colombia’s social scars.
Synopsis
After their grandfather’s death, cousins Marina and Jairo journey to reclaim family land. Marina’s trauma and silence reveal Colombia’s scars, while encounters along the road expose predation, memory, and fragile hope
