Vinod Kapri (born 15 August 1972) is an award-winning Indian filmmaker and journalist. He won the National Award in 2014 for Can’t Take This Shit Anymore and made his feature debut with the socio-legal satire Miss Tanakpur Haazir Ho (2015). His acclaimed films include Pihu (2018) and the documentary 1232 KMS (2021), which chronicled migrant workers during the COVID-19 lockdown. His latest feature, Pyre (2024), has been widely celebrated on the international festival circuit, premiering at the Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival and winning the PÖFF Audience Award. It has since screened at Bengaluru, Mooov, New York Indian Film Festival, London Indian Film Festival, Stuttgart, DC South Asian Film Festival, Boston, Chicago, and Novi Sad, earning multiple honors including Best Film, Best Director, Jury Special Mentions, and repeated Audience Awards.
In the remote Indian Himalayas, aging couple Padam and Tulsi face the erosion of their once lively village, deserted by migrating families. Fearing solitude in death, they bicker amidst despair. Unexpectedly, after 30 years, a letter from their estranged son revitalizes them, offering newfound hope and the will to live.
