Julia De Simone (RJ, 1982) is a director and visual artist. Partner of Mirada Films, she has been dedicated to film production since 2003. Master in Contemporary Art Studies (UFF) and graduated in Creative Documentary (Barcelona). Formosa Beach (Tiger Rotterdam, 2024) is her debut fiction feature, a Brazil-Portugal co- production, awarded and supported by FSA, ICA, Hubert Bals Fund, World Cinema Fund and RTP. She directed several documentaries and experimental films that were screened at film festivals including IDFA, Rotterdam, BAFICI, Cartagena, Uruguay, Havana, FICUNAM, Tiradentes, Festi-val do Rio, Mostra de São Paulo, among others.
Muanza is a woman born in the Kingdom of Kongo and trafficked to Brazil in the 19th century. Waking up nowadays, she finds herself in a time-twisting Rio de Janeiro. Figures from the past and the present come into her search for her roots across the city’s territory. A portrait of the experiences and struggles that create community and sisterhood.
