Mar Coll (Barcelona, 1981) is a Spanish screenwriter and film director. For her first film “Three Days with the Family” (2010) she won the Goya, Gaudí and Biznaga de Plata (Malaga Festival) awards for Best Director. With her second feature film “We All Want What’s Best for Her” (2013), which opened Seminci in Valladolid, she received nominations for Best Director and Best Screenplay at the Gaudí Awards. She has also directed the limited series “Killing the Father” (2018) and “This is not Sweden” (2023). “Salve Maria” is her long-awaited return to cinema.
Maria (34), a young writer who has just become a mother, is obsessed with a scandalous event: Alice Espanet (37) has drowned her 10-month-old twins in the bathtub. Writing about Alice will be Maria’s only way to understand the radical experience of her own motherhood.
