Magnus von Horn, born on December 21, 1983, in Gothenburg, Sweden, is a Swedish-Polish film director and screenwriter. Von Horn's career began with short films, including "Radek" (2006), a documentary about a young Polish criminal, and "Without Snow" (2011), which was nominated for the Guldbagge Award for Best Short Film. His debut feature film, "The Here After" (2015), premiered in the Directors' Fortnight section at the Cannes Film Festival and received critical acclaim1. His second feature, "Sweat" (2020), was selected for the Cannes Film Festival, which was unfortunately canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. His third feature, "The Girl with the Needle" (2024), premiered at the Cannes Film Festival and competed for the Palme d'Or.
Karoline, a young factory worker, finds herself abandoned and pregnant while striving to climb out of poverty in post WW1 Copenhagen. Amidst her struggles, she meets Dagmar, a charismatic woman running a hidden adoption agency within a candy store, helping poor mothers in finding foster homes for their unwanted children.
